Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC)
Only $25.00
Effective January 1, 2015, the Handgun Safety Certificate program was replaced with the Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) program. Under the FSC program, requirements that previously applied to handguns only now apply to all firearms (handguns and long guns), unless exempt. Here’s the list of exemptions.
A valid Handgun Safety Certificate can still be used to purchase/acquire handguns only until it expires. For long gun purchases/acquisitions made January 1, 2015, and thereafter, an FSC will be required. Once an FSC is obtained, it can be used for both handgun and long gun purchases/acquisitions.
About the FSC
You can get your Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) by taking and passing a written test on firearm safety at our store and training facility. In order to take the test, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older, and
- Provide a valid California Driver’s License or California Department of Motor Vehicles Identification Card.
The best way to prepare for the test is to either read the FSC study guide or watch the HSC video. You can click one of the buttons above to either download the guide or watch the video for free.
Don’t worry if you don’t pass the test on your first try. Your $25.00 fee allows you to retake the test (different version) one more time after twenty-four (24) hours have passed.
